Appian Technology PLC completes major parking guidance installation at BAA Edinburgh Airport

14 October 2004

Appian Technology Plc (‘Appian’ or ‘the Company’), the Ofex listed provider of automatic number plate recognition systems ('ANPR') and traffic management solutions, has installed a £70,000 parking guidance information system at Edinburgh Airport’s multi-storey and surface car parks.

The Company’s ‘Navigator’ guidance system uses patented vehicle detection processors which count vehicles at entrances and exits. This information is passed to a control processor allowing car space occupancy information to be relayed to signs guiding motorists to vacant spaces. Through a more efficient use of the space available, car park operators’ revenues improve, customer satisfaction increases and congestion/pollution is reduced.

Edinburgh is the fourth airport to install Navigator with similar systems at Dublin, Glasgow and Birmingham airports. A number of shopping centre car parks across the UK also use the system.

Appian Chairman Pat Ryan said: “Winning key and prestigious orders in what is a very competitive market place demonstrates the quality and reliability of Navigator. We recently strengthened our sales force to take advantage of the growing awareness of our range of ANPR and traffic management solutions and have a strong pipeline of potential contracts.”

This deal follows the Company’s recently announced contract win worth £120,000 to integrate its ANPR system into a CCTV network in a large provincial town in the Avon and Somerset area. A further estimated £600,000 of orders is expected over the next 12 months as other towns in the region are equipped with the technology.
