White City ANPR systemAutomatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) is a tool providing security and analytical solutions not only to the law enforcement community but also to commercial organisations. Westfield ‘White City’ shopping centre in London is the largest urban shopping centre in Europe and NDI Recognition Systems (NDI-RS) were commissioned to provide the complete ANPR solution for the complex. The aim was to provide to all its customers and staff a safe, uninterrupted traffic monitoring system and provide the mall’s management team with a full range of ANPR analytical tools for their use.

NDI-RS have installed and commissioned 36 Cobra ANPR image capture systems running the Talon Neural Network ANPR engine. The designed system is operating with a number of independent plate recognition units deployed on the site communicating over a local area network to a single state of the art NDI-RS central control and management server. The ANPR cameras cover main sections of the car park infrastructure providing a full and secure ANPR solution. NDI-RS Cobra cameras are installed on all the main car park visitor entrances and exit points, service depots and underground entrances. The NDI-RS ANPR technology provides complete coverage for this large entertainment centre with high volumes of vehicle movements 24 hours a day and 7 days per week.
ANPR System Benefits:
  • Alerts of unwanted / blacklisted vehicle entries.
  • Statistical analysis and historical audit trail of vehicles entering and leaving the site.
  • Vehicle detection on an active database with the ability to be connected to the Police National Computer to enable a rapid security or police response.
  • Vehicle detection on a passive database to enable the triggering of an automated action i.e. vehicle management for centre staff, VIP parking etc.
  • Integrated traffic control system for the service and staff areas simplifying and reducing the levels of manpower at key points.
  • Information gathering for marketing and loyalty purposes.
  • Integration via an industry standard format to the Police National Computer and/or other back office solutions.

IC Service and Maintenance Ltd Director, Ray Walsh, responsible for the building control solutions at Westfield London, commented on the recently completed NDI-RS project: ‘’A very smart and tidy installation with excellent service provided by the NDI-RS engineering team complementing the great NDI-RS products’’.

NDI-RS are proud to be part of this major new development, complementing London’s other ANPR systems and adding one more location to London’s skyline to be covered by the latest and most advanced NDI-RS ANPR Technology ensuring total customer satisfaction.
